~ The Little Girl & Sweetness ~
The other day I was in the grocery store and observed a little girl going through the candy section to see which of the many enticing treats she was going to take home. Her mother, busy putting the items she was going to purchase on the counter, hadn't noticed her daughter's preoccupation. The little girl, about five years of age, pulled out the bottom of her shirt, which had been neatly tucked into her skirt. Holding out the bottom of her shirt, forming a little pouch, she proceeded to methodically place "all" of her favorite candy bars, and treats into her little shirt-pouch.
Once her shirt was bulging with treats of all sizes and shapes, she turned to empty them into the shopping cart her mother was still busy emptying. As soon as the little girl turned, her mother turned to see her daughter's shirt stuffed with candy. "What are you doing, honey?!" the mother exclaimed with surprise and wonder in her voice. "Getting some candy," her child replied, matter-of-factly. "Well, that's a lot of candy, dear! What are going to do with all that?" Her daughter replied immediately with a joyful tone, "Give it to daddy. You told daddy yesterday that it will help him to allow more sweetness into his life." The mother laughed out loud along with everyone in the check-out line. The mother explained to her child that that was more candy than she wanted to buy though, it was a beautiful thing for her to think of her father that way. After a little conference between them, the little girl agreed that three treats were enough to bring home. One for her father, one for her mother and one for herself.As they walked out of the store, I was behind them. The daughter looked up at her mother and said, "Mommy, it will help you to allow more sweetness into your life."
